Partners in Skin Care

Hairstylists, beauticians, and manicurists see customers on a regular basis and often offer advice on clients’ skin conditions.  Many times, these conditions can turn out to be something serious and require medical attention. Particularly, hairstylists and barbers often examine their clients’ scalp during a haircut visit and can make a real difference to recognize a concerning lesion.  In a recent Harvard survey of 304 hair professionals from the Houston area, less than 28% of responders had any formal skin cancer education although 49% responders were “very interested” or “extremely interested” in participating in a skin cancer education program.

At Garrott Dermatology, we recognize the public interest in better skin care and knowledge on various skin conditions that can occur on the scalp, face, or hands.
We are launching a new community service program called “Partners in Skin Care” to educate hair professionals, beauticians, and manicurists and to create a forum to discuss skin care issues. At the event, Dr. Liet N. Le will discuss 10 interesting cases and the ABCDEs of melanoma.  Our vision is to sponsor these forums several times a year to form a lasting partnership with our community.

Our inaugural event will be held Monday, January 16th at 6:00 pm. We will have door prizes, including Botox© or Dysport© session, Restylane© filler session, and Obagi© or La Roche-Posay© gift set and skin care product giveaways.
